Museums by Candlelight is Heritage Malta's mid-summer night-opening: six Valletta sites open from 7:00 pm to midnight on Saturday 6 June 2026, lit by candles rather than overhead lights, with chamber music and live readings dropped into the rooms.
Confirmed venues for 2026 are the Grandmaster's Palace State Rooms, the Palace Armoury, the National Museum of Archaeology, the National Museum of Fine Arts (MUZA), the Inquisitor's Palace and Fort St Elmo. A single combined ticket covers all six. The candle lighting is genuine — wax candles in the rooms that can take them, beeswax tea-lights in the more sensitive ones.
Plan a route rather than try to see everything. Start at MUZA on Auberge d'Italie or the Palace and work outward; the Armoury and the Archaeology Museum are the slowest-moving rooms. Eat first — the cafés inside the sites are basic.
